Jasper and Thelma Salmond of Columbia, South Carolina celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary on May 25th. The couple were married on their graduation day from Benedict College on May 25th, 1954. This was also a historic month for the landmark 1954 Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, in which the justices ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional.
Service to the community has been a hallmark of their broad-based commitment and dedication to the Midlands region since the early 1960s. Both have been active in leadership roles as volunteers for local, state, and national organizations.
The Salmonds celebrated these wonderful years of love, trust, tenacity, partnership, and spiritual growth with the family in thoughts and prayers of mutual thanks.
The Salmonds have two children - Rev. Jeryl (Kathy) Salmond and Mrs. Jenita S. (Vancie) Belton. They have nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
