Jessica P

Jessica P is wearing one of her shoe designs, called Passion Js. She created it because everyone needs a great pump to wear either for work or to just hang out.

Jessica Pringle’s fashion-loving journey began when she was just a young girl who had a keen eye for the most stylish items when shopping with her mother. Particularly as a shoe shopaholic, she decided one day that she could brand herself and start her own company. That decision has now led her to become the owner of her shoe business, ‘Beautiful Boss by Jessica P’.

“I started researching and saving money. I saved about $3,000, and I was able to launch my business online in 2015. In January of this year, I signed my lease and opened my store here in Columbia,” said Jessica. Jessica prides herself in having an authentic and meticulous shoe designing process to provide customers with quality products.

“What usually happens is, I’ll sketch a [shoe] idea out and play around with it. Of course, if I don’t like it, I’ll start over from scratch. After I decide what I want my shoe to look like, I’ll reach out to my manufacturer and send them a snapshot of my design, and they’ll come back with ideas about different color schemes, materials, and patterns that we’ll go back and forth about to make a decision,” she said.

Jessica has not only found success through the launching of her business, but she has also been recognized as a businesswoman in a variety of magazines, including STS Branding, Bold Plus, LWL, and LOV3RZ magazines. She is also the author of “Love, Happiness and a Baby Daddy”, which is based on her life experiences.

Although Ms. Pringle has experienced a wave of accomplishments, they have not been met without challenges.

“My biggest challenge was starting my business. Most people don’t want to give you the information you need to start, so I’m still learning - learning how to market and learning better ways to increase customer sales. One of the other biggest challenges was finding a good manufacturer. When I first started, I reached out to a manufacturer and they stole $700 from me, but I didn’t let that deter me from keeping going; I just brushed it off and took it as a learning experience. Going forward, I know how to deal with these people,” said Jessica.

Jessica credits knowing how to deal with people from her business program courses while attending South Carolina State University. She graduated from the HBCU with her Bachelor’s Degree in Management in 2012.

“I was really grateful for courses like Business Law, because it teaches you about different types of contracts. [The program] teaches you how to act professionally when you’re in different environments, what to say, and what not to say. Being in the business program, I had to dress up almost everyday, but I loved my experience.”

Jessica also received her Master’s Degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University and noted how she is working towards fulfilling her dream of ‘Beautiful Boss by Jessica P’ being known nationwide and expanding her brand to different cities and states. She is currently in the process of starting her business campaign ‘Dream. Plan. Do.’

“[Dream. Plan. Do.] basically means dream about whatever idea you want and whatever it is that you want to do. Once you finish dreaming about it, plan it. Write down your ideas and talk to people who you feel are going to support you and be on your team. Then, do. Start it regardless of how much money you think you have or how much money you think you need. Just do it, because at the end of the day, either it’s going to work or it’s not. You only have two options,” said Jessica.

When asked what makes her shoes unique, Jessica says, "My shoes were created because I didn’t always feel beautiful, so as a way to make myself feel better I bought shoes. They are different because they are made to bring out the inner beauty in you.
