Anthony Kennedy

March 12, 1970 - November 8, 2019

Editor’s Note: One of our very first Business of the Week feature stories was about Miriam Kennedy, owner of the Flower Station. We featured her in our March 5, 2009 issue. Sadly, we featured her again in our February 6, 2014 Business of the Week Update after her untimely death. Her son, Anthony Kennedy, took over his mother’s business. We did a feature story on The Flower Station and Anthony’s efforts to expand the business in our September 15, 2016 issue. In the article, Anthony talked about the importance of continuing his mother’s legacy, and his desire to pass the business on to his daughter, Layla, when she grows up. He also thanked the community for supporting The Flower Station for 34 years.

Unfortunately, the Midlands has lost another one of its long-time business leaders. We are sad to report that Anthony Kennedy was killed on November 7, 2019. Through two generations, the Kennedy family has been stalwarts in the community -- and friends of the Carolina Panorama Newspaper. We mourn the loss of Anthony Kennedy.

The viewing for Anthony Kennedy will be held from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Bostick Tompkins Funeral Home, located at 2930 Colonial Drive in Columbia.

The funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, November 15 at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, located at 2440 Atlas Road in Columbia. Following the service, internment will be held at Memorial Gardens of Columbia, located at 9301 Wilson Boulevard.

AK was a friend, as was Ms Miriam. I didn’t hear of his passing until a week after the funeral. I find it very strange that the untimely passing of a Columbia business person was so poorly reported and hushed up. My heart goes out to Layla!!! She was very close to her dad. I know what I’ve heard in the streets and I don’t believe it. I dated this man on and off for years, and then maintained a great friendship that spans over 20 years and he was the most gentle man who avoided confrontation. I’m stunned at the silence on this and I’m not convinced of this “domestic” mess. RIP AK! My love yo Layla. I pray she inherits all that was meant for her. I know Mrs Miriam wanted her to have it all...
