The owner of one of Columbia’s most popular seafood restaurants wants the community to know that despite erroneous news reports that they had closed, they are still open for business.

Last week, customers who stopped at Palmetto Seafood saw was a sign on the door that said they were closed temporarily because of death in the family. On Friday, The State newspaper and The Free Times reported that the restaurant was shut down. The State even reported that the restaurant’s phone and social media pages were shut down.

Over the weekend, Mrs. Moultrie heard the rumors. Someone even told her that it was also reported by a local TV station. No one called her to see if the information they reported was true. So on top of dealing with the loss of a close family member who was the backbone of Palmetto Seafood, she had to deal with misinformation that threatened her business.

Despite the pain of her loss, Mrs. Moultrie wants everyone to know that Palmetto Seafood is open for business.

“Palmetto Seafood is back,” said Mrs. Moultrie. “I am so sorry and I apologize for the mis-communication that we were closing for good. No way! I did have death in the family, but we are back on our normal schedule. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you.”

Please stop by Palmetto Seafood at 2200 Gervais Street in Columbia. Keep them in your prayers, lift them up — and buy something.
