Jamal Josef

The 2019 Voorhees College Homecoming step show will be hosted by Voorhees alumnus Jamal Josef, who recently performed in the opening act of the 2019 BET Awards show and choreographed sections of Beyonc ’s 2018 Coachella performance. The show is on Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m.

Voorhees celebrates the 123rd Homecoming with “There’s no place like Voorhees,” theme inspired by Dorothy from “The Wiz” who wanted nothing more than to go back home. Josef will incorporate thematic elements to the show while the Black Greek sororities and fraternities compete to take home the 2019 trophies.

Also, Josef has selected Madame Juice, a native of Oakland, CA., who serves as the president of Very Special Individuals (VSI) Edutainment Factory, to serve as his co-host. Jordan ‘DJ Guice’ Daniels, former Voorhees student, will be on the “Ones and Twos.”

Josef said he wanted to hype the show up more this year. “Every year we alum look forward to the step show. We want more interactive components and opportunities to celebrate all campus clubs/organizations. This year’s Homecoming step show will have that and more. Homecoming will never be the same,” Josef said

Josef earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Voorhees in 2010. He was a member of the Eta Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he served as step master and president, president of Model Troupe, captain of the Voorhees College Dance Team, and a member of the Voorhees College Concert Choir.

Currently, he resides in Los Angeles, where he is a professional dancer, creative director, and choreographer. He has worked with Chuck Maldonado for Empire’s Leah Daniels, opening for Eric Benet, Danity Kane’s D. Woods, LeBron James The Musical, CBS/Lexus, Pre-Grammy Show with Dawn Richard, Pharrell, N.E.R.D., Saturday Night Live, J. Lo/NBC Season 1 World of Dance, Ray J, John Legend, Kirk Franklin, Lenny Williams, The

Stellar Awards Pre-show with The Walls Group, Raphael Saadiq, and The BET Awards 2019 w/ Regina Hall. His most significant accomplishment to date is his choreography for Beyonc at Coachella 2018 and On The Run Tour 2.

The Homecoming Step Show begins at 7 p.m., and doors open at 6:15 p.m. Tickets for the Step Show/After Party are $20. Tickets for the After Party only are $10. For more information, contact the Office of Communications, at 803-780-1191 or at communications@voorhees.edu.
