Prisma Health Breast Health Center–Parkridge recently opened its new location, located on the first floor of 100 Palmetto Health Parkway, Suite 102G. The center is on the Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital campus in Columbia and the Irmo community. Proceeds from the 2020 Prisma Health Midlands Foundation Walk for Life helped support the redesign and furnishing of the new center.

The center was moved from its original site within the hospital to the new location where there is easy access for patients and room for expansion. “We envisioned this new center to create an improved patient experience. It can be stressful and even emotional for patients when they return to a hospital environment for follow-up diagnostics,” said imaging manager Sarah Sinclair. She credits the Breast Health Center team and particularly surgical oncologist Dr. Julian Kim for embracing the idea of rethinking the location in a patient-centered way.

Kim, added, “How a patient feels about their care experience can influence their entire family in future decisions about seeking medical advice and care. Screenings and diagnostics are often the beginning of a journey toward treatment and healing. While the hospital remains the base for surgical care, the proposal for moving the Breast Health Center to a nearby dedicated space made a lot of sense.”

In addition to improving the patient experience, the center will be positioned to increase the number of patients it serves for routine mammography as well as follow-up diagnostic services, said Julie Shealy, director of imaging. “We are excited about growing our capacity and helping even more patients in the Midlands.”

To schedule a mammogram, call 803-434-9100 to make an appointment at any of Prisma Health’s local breast cancer screening sites. Patients do not need a referral to schedule a screening mammogram. Visit for more information and a list of all Prisma Health mammography locations and hours.
