You could call it an early Christmas present. During the winter break, Dreher High School seniors Jazhara Solan and Leon Wang were notified that they earned early admission to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the most prestigious universities in the country.

Of the 15,100 students nationwide who apply for Early Action admission, MIT is expected to admit about 687.

“We are just thrilled and proud, that Jazhara and Leon have earned early admission to MIT, which is no small feat,” said Dreher principal Kevin Hasinger. “Even though the application process for early admission is highly competitive and the number of applicants this year was 62% larger than last year, their admission shows that Dreher students can compete with the best in the nation.”

Jazhara and Leon are outstanding students who rank in the top 3% of Dreher's senior class. Leon is a National Merit semifinalist and Jazhara has been recognized through the College Board's National African American Scholar Recognition Program. The district extends its congratulations to Jazhara and Leon, as well as their parents, teachers and counselors.
